N.E.E.T - Not Engaged in Education, Employment or Training

This option has been specifically designed for those young people who are no longer engaged in or attending school and who are not yet ready to take full advantage of the Extended Opportunities Program. It is a short access course led by a team experienced in working with disengaged young people, which aims to establish the learning barrier that each individual has encountered and to address these during this intensive period with a focus being placed on team building, confidence, self-esteem and behavioural conditioning. The young people will be encouraged to identify their own learning pathway and develop the skills they need in order to approach the Extended Opportunities provision on offer in a positive manner.

2009 saw YourMotive.com run a 6 week pilot course (1,152 hours) for a group of 8 students from across Cardiff. A full range of activities and projects were undertaken with the remit being to engage and motivate students.

All students successfully completed the course and all have gained the Bronze Youth Achievers Award for which they will receive a certificate. The students attendance and retention should be commended as it was maintained at over 97%. Some of the projects undertaken included, work at the Forestry Commission, gaining a First Aid Qualification, exploring Cardiff past and present, visiting locations such as Cardiff Castle and the Slimbridge Wildfowl and Wetland Trust.
